Qullqi 2019 collection – the making ofAfter our first collection ‘Otoño’ from 2018, we are now preparing the launch of a new 2019 collection. Together with designer Angelica we dove into a design process full of creative excitement. What we love about Angelica is that besides her feeling for European fashion trends, she has a good understanding of our Peruvian heritage.
Our design process started with gathering inspiration from different sources. From Peruvian history to neo minimal design. Angelica turned this into sketches for the new collection.
Marlis and Juan Carlos’ expertise came in handy with their comments. They are 2 pillars of our production process, working together for several years already, and being with Qullqi since day one. We valued and used their feedback to continue our process to the next phase: prototyping.
Juan Carlos, 32, is with no doubt the star of prototyping. He started as a silversmith at young age, influenced by his dad’s job. He did a fantastic job making it possible to have our prototypes within just few days. Bringing to life what was just an idea a couple of months ago. You will learn more about Juan Carlos and his fellow artisans in an upcoming series of articles we are working on.
Qullqi founder Hugo visited his home country Peru this January to meet with silversmiths’ team leader Marlis. She showed us how the prototyping process works, what issues came up and which great jewelry they had made for us to see.
We are now fine tuning our new collection and will launch it in the coming months. With photos shot at an exciting location!
